Society for Vascular Surgery Honors living legend with named lectureship to be delivered during its annual meeting

For the very first time in its 75 year history, the Society for Vascular Surgery has honored a living legend with a named lectureship to be delivered during its annual meeting.

This is the highest award a Society can bestow upon a person whose work made a significant impact on the well-being of vascular patients as well as on the betterment of our entire specialty.

According to a recent announcement made by the outgoing President of the Society for Vascular Surgery, Dr. Ali Aburahma, the application for the creation of the Frank J. Veith Lecture on PAD  made by Enrico Ascher, MD to the SVS was unanimously approved by its Council. Over the last five decades, Dr. Veith has published hundreds of important scientific articles on strategies to salvage severely ischemic limbs threatened by advanced atherosclerotic disease. Dr. Veith was the first to challenge many established dogmas that prevented successful attempts at limb salvage. Several of his pioneering and innovative surgical approaches to lower extremity arterial reconstructions, initially contested by many, are now established strategies in the armamentarium of a modern vascular surgeon.

Thus far, Frank Veith has been the only individual to have received all 4 of the highest honors given by the Society for Vascular Surgery: President in 1995, Life-time Achievement Award in 2010; Homans Lecture in 2016 and now the named Frank J. Veith Lecture to be presented at the VAM for eternity.
