II Annual Meeting | Frank J. Veith International Society

May 9th, 2023 will be remembered for a long time by those who had an opportunity to attend the II Annual Meeting of the FJVIS in New York City. Sixty-two leaders in vascular surgery travelled to the heart of New York City to participate in what became to be known as the “meeting of the minds”. Herein, the most important issues affecting the practicing vascular surgeon were critically analyzed and creative solutions were introduced by a group of nationally recognized experts.

Dr. Frank Veith’s numerous original contributions were often cited during the meeting by many of the distinguished presenters. His talk on “How to Succeed in Vascular Surgery” was extremely well received – words of wisdom packed in a 7-minute presentation! Dr. Peter Gloviczki’s Presidential Lecture was rich and very well-prepared, detailing the most important developments in vascular surgery and endovascular therapies in addition to sharing his thoughts about the future of vascular surgery.

In fairness, all the invited speakers gave amazingly interesting and thoughtful presentations.
During the business dinner, Dr. Ascher brought up for discussion the value and limitations of the concept of regionalization for the management of highly complex vascular diseases. Ideally, said Dr. Ascher, patients requiring complex vascular procedures should be referred to centers with proven expertise in advanced endovascular aortic repair; management of infected aortic grafts; extended limb salvage approaches, and other highly complex conditions. The definition of “highly complex vascular procedure/operation”, logistics, economics, and process of implementation were discussed as well.
The success of this second annual meeting motivated the FJVIS leadership to roll its sleeves and already started preparations for the III Annual Meeting of the FJVIS.
